A head-on collision in Franklin County killed one person and sent another to the hospital this morning.

It happened shortly before eight on Route 122 near Burnt Chimney. State Police say 52 year old Roy Nininger of Moneta was driving North when he crossed the center line. His vehicle hit a pickup driven by 18 year old Paul Morra of Salem. Nininger was pronounced dead at the scene, Morra is in stable condition at Roanoke Memorial. State Police closed the road for hours while they investigated the wreck.

Terry Holland, who first arrive at UVa as head men's basketball coach on April first of 1974, and later returned to the University as athletic director, is stepping down from his current position as special assistant to the President. Most of his energy in his most recent position was raising money for the new basketball arena.

The 84 year old patriarch of Hendrick Motrosports was better known by the nickname he went by for years and years - that of Papa Joe. He and son Rick Hendrick both grew up in South Hill where they raced modifieds early in thier racing careers. He remained active in the sports throughout his life, in fact he and his grandson Ricky, were listed at co-owners of the Cup team headed by rookie driver Brian Vickers this year and on the No. 5 Busch team for driver Kyle Busch. Hendrick had been in and out of the hospital several times this year battling cancer. Papa Joe Hendrick was 84.

During a recent Democratic fund-raiser, Goldberg used the president's name in a sexual reference.
A statement from the company apologized to anyone who was offended in the manner she expressed her self.
