Members of the Commonwealth Transportation Board today voted unanimously to alter the path of Interstate 73.

A new route was drawn about four months ago to avoid a Southeast Roanoke neighborhood after it received a historic designation. The project has generated controversy among affected communities, but [***I-73 IN MONITOR***]

Officials believe a man is holding a woman at gunpoint in the Berry Hill section of the county.

A man was killed in a head-on collision in Franklin County this morning.

The accident happened around 8-AM on Route 122 near Burnt Chimney. Police say 52 year old Roy Nininger of Moneta was driving his Lincoln Towncar when he crossed the center lines. He was hit head on by 18 year old Paul Morra of Salem. Nininger was pronounced dead at the scene. Morra was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he is in good condition. State Police blocked off 122 for hours while they investigated the accident. The occupants of another vehicle involved in the crash were not injured.

An accident on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County backed up southbound traffic for a couple miles this afternoon. State police say it happened about 4:15 as a tractor trailer merged into traffic from the weigh station. A nearby pickup truck hauling a camper then got wedged between that tractor trailer and another, causing it to sway and flip over. One female passenger suffered minor injuries. All lanes are now open.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a fire this morning at a major car dealership in Christiansburg.

A motorist on Interstate 81 spotted heavy smoke over the Shelor Motor Mile Service building around four o'clock this morning. The fire started inside the garage in a Volkswagen Jetta and quickly spread to two other cars. Damage is estimated to be in the thousands. State troopers and Christiansburg police are handling the investigation.

According to the Montgomery County Commonwealth's Attorney, the state constitution does not allow a judge to set a trial on a day when Virginians go the polls. The suspended Hokie quarterback was supposed to be re-tried on November first and second on charges he served alcohol to minors. Vick, running back Mike Imoh and wide receiver Brenden Hill were all convicted in juvenile court and sentenced to jail time and fines. It now looks like Vick and Hill will each have separate trials in October and Imoh's case will be heard in September.

Holland, who first arrived at UVa as head men's basketball coach on April first of 1974, and later returned to the University as athletic director, is stepping down from his current position as special assistant to the President. The Virginia Gentleman remains the winningest coach in men's hoop history, and as athletic director he oversaw the expansion of Scott Stadium. He has most recently been a fundraiser. No word on why he's leaving at this time.

Cathi Carter started the day 3 shots back of Bolling, but Carter had putter trouble most of the day, ballooning to a final round 84 to finish fifth.
Defending champ Meg Davies, also struggled to score on the hard, dry par 71 layout. The JMU senior carded a 79 to grab third.
And not even a third straight round in the 70's could enable Sara Cole to catch Bolling. Cole came home second after a 78, 6 shots back of Bolling. With 12 pars and 6 bogeys, Dot's round of 77 wasn't spectacular, much like her ho-hum reaction to winning another trophy.
