The first political convention since 9-11 kicks off today in Boston, amid tight security.
Under the watchful eyes of armed troops and police, delegates are arriving for today's start of the Democratic National Convention.
Democrats are hoping to give their choice for President a big boost in the polls.
Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter will get the week started by highlighting John Kerry's plan for America's future.

The U- S military says three people were killed today in a suicide bombing outside a U-S base in Mosul, Iraq.
Several people were hurt, including three American soldiers.

Meanwhile, Iraqi forces backed by U-S troops clashed with militants in a former Saddam Hussein stronghold.
The military reported 15 insurgents killed during the five- hour battle.
Over the weekend, insurgents also assassinated a former government official and a U- S soldier died in a roadside bombing attack.
The violence comes as Iraqis are choosing delegates to a national conference considered a key step in moving toward democracy.

Authorities say alcohol WAS a factor in a fatal accident in Bedford County. It happened at 6-05 last night on Route 654.
State Police say the victim, 48 year old Wanda Saye Hicks of Vinton, came around a curve too fast, ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Hicks and her passenger, Allen Shelor of Moneta, were ejected from the car.
Shelor's injuries were not life threatening.
He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is expected to be released later today.

A fun day at the rodeo took a deadly turn for a wayward bull after he got loose from his pen and had to be shot and killed by police.

The 14- hundred- pound bull escaped from his pen by jumping over a seven- foot fence at a Mexican rodeo in Salinas, California.
As one man tried to lead the bull into a mobile corral, the animal charged him, then kicked and gored him in the arm.
Police say they shot the animal to prevent anyone else from getting injured.
About 50 people had gathered to watch the incident.

The former head of the New York Stock Exchange's compensation committee wants a federal judge to throw out Eliot Spitzer's case against him. Ken Langone, the founder of Home Depot, says the New York state attorney general has failed to show that Langone benefited in anyway by recommending and approving the pay package of former NYSE chairman Richard Grasso. Langone's spokesman says the case "doesn't make any sense logically and it has no merit legally." Spitzer accused Langone of breach of contract, alleging he withheld information about Grasso's pay to the NYSE's board of directors. Spitzer is also suing Grasso to return more than $100 million of a $187 million pay package to the exchange.

The Clothes for Kids Campaign in partnership with The Salvation Army is helping needy children with back-to-school supplies. The project, located at the Valley View Mall is similar to the Christmas Angel Tree program. Citizens fill out a Clothes for Kids hanger that details sizing information of a child. Items will be distributed to needy families after the gifts are purchased and returned to the drop-off site. The effort wraps up July 31st.

State Police are investigating an accident that killed a Lynchburg man. Officials say 47 year old Kevin Nathaniel Edwards was driving his car Northbound on Route 29 near the Blairs Fire Department yesterday morning. Police say he lost control and hit both guardrails before running into a ditch. Edwards was NOT wearing his seat belt. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
