Authorities say Thornton, Wilson and a third man, Jerry Wayne Weadon, tried to force their way into a Pittsylvania County home early Wednesday morning. Gammon exchanged fire with the suspects, apparently hitting Weadon in the back. His body was found in Henry County later that day. Thornton will remain in Eden, North Carolina until he waives extradition back to Virginia.
