Roanoke City Police have arrested a second man in the shooting of a nurse earlier this week.

18 year old Leonard Crowder faces charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was taken to the Roanoke City Jail. Early yesterday morning, police arrested 18 year old Charles Lee Thompson after a standoff. He faces malicious wounding, abduction, and firearms charges.

37 year old Millard Mahala was shot in the back on Lafayette Avenue shortly before noon on Tuesday. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Roanoke City Police.

Soon VDOT will start carving out space for new bridges that will not only add a third lane, but will raise their elevation by 9 feet.

The family hired a friend to watch their house while they were on vacation.. the usual things like mow the lawn, pay the bills and feed the cats.
It didn't turn out like they hoped.

The housesitter was 22-year-old Stephanie Lyne Calohan, a neighbor and long-time friend of their family.
The Callahans had hired her to look after things while they were gone.. police say she used the opportunity to write and cash 12 checks worth nearly five thousand dollars.
The Callahans say their bank plans to cover their loss, but the hit is more than financial.
They've had to change their locks, their bank accounts.. and their approach to trusting people.

Bill White has acquired at least nine properties in the Chapman Avenue area and has plans to purchase and renovate more rental units there.
But recently fliers that identified White as a racist and neo-nazi appeared in the neighborhood, and critics called attention to an extreme website White edits.
White denies he is racist, and says Erica Hardwick Hoesch is a former girlfriend who came to Virginia to harass him.
He is asking a judge to prevent Hoesch from contacting him, entering his property, or spreading false information about him.
