[END MAP] Officials say the man - whose name has not been released - was driving towards the intersection around 3:30 when he ran off of the right side of the road. He then over- corrected and ran off the left side of the road where he was thrown from his pickup. The truck then rolled over and landed on his head.

The victim was then taken to UVA Medical Center where he was last listed in critical condition. Chief Coleman says knowing the victim changed everything in this situation, but says he's proud of the way his volunteers relied on their training and stayed focused on their job.

One person was injured after she was hit by a car in the Roanoke Valley this afternoon.

It happened around 3-o'clock on Ogden Road on the Roanoke City-County line. Witnesses say the womman was walking down the road when she was hit. She was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital by ambulance. There is no word on the extent of her injuries. Police say charges are pending.

A man faces multiple charges after allegedly leading police on a 50-mile chase along Interstate 81 yesterday. 32 year-old Gordon James Kirk was driving northbound on I-81 near Buchanan when a state trooper clocked him on radar at 86 miles-per-hour. Police say Kirk then led police on a high-speed chase through Botetourt and Rockbridge counties, then ran into a cruiser as police tried to create a rolling roadblock. Police say Kirk continued to drive at speeds of up to 95 miles-per-hour until he was stopped with spike-strips near Staunton. Kirk is charged with felonious vehicle assault of an officer, reckless driving and failure to stop.

Two men wounded in yesterday's shooting at a Stop-In on Hershberger Road are still in the hospital.

23 year old Steven Jefferson is listed in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial. 21 year old Michael Wood is now listed in "good" condition. Police arrested 22 year old Marcus Jerome Nance shortly after the shooting. He faces murder and malicious wounding charges, and is being held at the Roanoke City Jail. 24 year old *Joey Lee Joyce* was killed in the shooting.

Giving the gift of life may have been their personal reward -- but now some local organ and tissue donors are being rewarded publicly.

Today donor families and transplant recipients gathered at Rivers Edge Park, to donate a greenway memorial in honor of local organ and tissue donors. During the ceremony, participants each picked up two stones -- one they could throw in the river or put at the greenway site -- and another they could keep for themselves in honor of their loved one's memory. The memorial represents hope and healing for people like Jane Laprade, whose son, Keith was killed in an automobile accident three years ago.

Gala will receive 10-thousand dollars from the program for export-related advertising and shows, plus another 10-thousand dollars in professional services. Three economic groups in the Roanoke Valley were honored. The Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership, and the economic development departments of Roanoke City and Roanoke County recieved their accreditation.
Only 26 organizations in North America share the distinction, and the Roanoke Valley is the only community in which three organizations earned accreditation at the same time.
Goodwill Industries cut the ribbon on its new 55-thousand square foot Melrose Avenue facility. The new corporate headquarters consolidates worksites in Roanoke and Salem. It has the capacity to serve three-hundred individuals with disabilities or disadvantages and fifty staff members. The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research recently received 1- point- 3 million dollars from the Virginia Tobacco Commission. The grant will be used to support the Institute's VIPER program which focuses on research to advance racing performance. VIPER research will eventually serve auto makers and suppliers. Programs are now being planned to attract higher paying *motorsports-related* jobs to the region. Virginia Tech and Virginia International Raceway are also partners in the VIPER Program.
