Two people are dead after a night of swimming. Rockbridge County authorities say 20 year old Charles Back and his 13 year old cousin went swimming at Jordan's Point yesterday evening. When they never came home, Back's brother when looking for them and found only their belongings. Police and rescue crews were called in, along with the Salem Swift water rescue team. About twenty minutes after two this morning, Rockbridge County divers found the bodies about 20 feet away from the bank in 15 feet of water. Both deaths are ruled accidental.

Several local fire departments are now working towards creating Swift Water Rescue Teams to make sure they're ready when the time comes. They spent the weekend training on the New River.

There currently only three Swift Water Rescue Teams in Virginia, including one in Salem. Now, Volunteer firefighters from Bedford and Rockbridge Counties are working to build their own teams. Certification includes 36 hours of training in the classroom and the water.

Bedford County firefighters have received grant money from the Department of Homeland Security for their team. However, Buena Vista Firefighters are paying for much of their gear out of their own pockets. They're now working to raise money for a rescue boat.

Danville Police have charged a woman with first degree murder.

[TAKE OLIVER FS E599] 39 year old Mildred Renee Oliver of Danville is charged with the murder of 78-year-old Robert Walter Russell. Russell's body was discovered around 8-thirty yesterday morning in an apartment in the 600 block of Hughes Street.

Officers say he suffered a neck wound, but an autopsy will be performed to determine exactly how he died. Oliver is being held at the Danville jail without bond.

35 drivers competed in the Bus Roadeo at the Roanoke Civic Center. One at a time, drivers maneuvered their 35 to 40- foot- long buses through a road course. Judges scored contestants on their personal appearance, driving skills and safety. Drivers also had to meet certain qualifications before entering the Rodeo.
