State police a driver who ran a stop sign was responsible for a fatal traffic accident in eastern Bedford County. It took to the life of 54 year old Donald Driskill of Lynchburg. Police say Driskill was driving on route 221 when his car was struck at Bryant Road, pushing it into an oncoming pickup truck. Investigators say Ronald Tubbs of Lynchburg drove the vehicle that ran the stop sign, and charges are pending.

North Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, announced a mandatory evacuation for visitors after touring the island. The evacuation, starting at 6 am tomorrow morning, will make it easier for repairs to be made.
Easley says flooding from Hurricane Alex heavily damaged at least 300 cars owned by tourists. So-the state plans to use school buses to get the tourists onto ferries-the only way off the island.

But Fualaau's attorney has filed a motion to vacate the no-contact order. Some who've been following the case say the order should be lifted.

The woman is talking with prosecutors about whether to continue with the case, this after a court reporter accidentally e-mailed transcripts from a closed hearing to the media. In that hearing, the defense claimed the woman had multiple sex partners just two days before and 15 hours after her encounter with Bryant .. and all before she had a medical exam. The judge has since ruled that the accuser's sex life can be used as evidence. A decision on whether to continue with criminal charges is expected within a week to ten days.

England is charged with prisoner abuse at the Abu Ghraib (grayb) prison in Iraq. Her military hearing is under way in North Carolina. Today's testimony came from members of her own unit about other incidents. One supervisor said England had to be given verbal and written orders to sleep in her own bed, not that of boyfriend Charles Graner. Another testified about a topless frolic on Virginia Beach before the unit went to Iraq. He said he found out later that England had posed for a topless photo next to him while he'd been sleeping in a hotel room. England faces up to 38 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Henry County authorities say a man took his own life when they arrived at a domestic disturbance around 1 o'clock today.

Deputies say 40 year old William Phillip Craddock held his girlfriend hostage for a half hour at his home on Airport Road. She was able to dial 9-1-1, and dispatchers heard a scuffle. The woman escaped when deputies arrived at the home, and shortly after one shot was fired inside the home. After trying to establish contact in the home, a tactical team stormed the house and found Craddock dead from a gunshot wound. Authorities say his girlfriend suffered bruises to her neck and head from the altercation.

A grand jury in Lynchburg will consider a felony drug charge against a man accused of running a mobile meth lab.

38-year-old Barney Cawthorne was arrested in April when a state trooper pulled him over for a faulty inspection sticker.
Police discovered what they say were the makings of a drug lab inside Cawthorne's car.. a hazardous materials team was called in to remove several volatile chemicals.
Cawthorne was found guilty of four motor vehicle charges today.. a grand jury could indict him next month on a charge of manufacturing of a controlled substance.

Hickam is in his 30th season with the Vikings. Two years ago, his team was unbeaten in the regular season, but last year they finished with a record of just 1 and 9.

NASCAR will hold a Busch Series race in Mexico City next season, marking the first time a points race has been held outside the U.S. The race will be held next spring on a road course that now hosts Champ Car events. The series will also return to the road course in Watkins Glen after a three-year absence. The entire schedule for the Busch series is expected to be released tomorrow.

After sneaking out of its pen earlier today, the puppy crawled under a fence and fell into an irrigation ditch. The puppy's owner called the California Department of Forestry for help. Although they're probably not trained in puppy rescue, the CDF successfully removed the dog from the water.
