Forecasters fear storm surges of up to 20 feet.

Talk is of a truce in Najaf to end the intense fighting there.

As ambulances ferry out the wounded, Iraqi officials and aides to Shite Cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr are trying to hammer out a deal.
The Shite uprising led by Al Sadr has raged on for nine days in the holy city of Najaf- and other Shite strongholds.
A Senior U-S official confirms al Sadr was wounded by shrapnel in an earlier attack, but the Iraqi government disputes that.
Meanwhile U-S military officials say they've repositioned troops around the city.

A Roanoke County man is dead after wrecking his vehicle on Route 220.

Roanoke Police say the man in his 60's was travelling *NORTH* on 220 at about a quarter after eleven this morning.
Shortly after passing the Wonju exit he crossed *over* the median.
The vehicle then crossed both lanes of southbound traffic and ended up in a ditch.
The man was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later.
His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
No one else was injured.
