Congressman Bob Goodlatte has written a statement in response to the John Edwards visit to Roanoke. Goodlatte says "John Kerry and John Edwards do not reflect the values of the people of Southwest Virginia." The congressman goes on to say that President Bush has created an economic environment where small businesses can flourish and throughout hard times in America -- the economy remains the strongest in the world. Goodlatte says the more *Virginians* learn about the records of John Kerry and John Edwards, the more President Bush will be their clear choice in November.

Sunday's Chicago Tribune will publish a 17-hundred word defense of John Kerry's record in Vietnam written by William Rood. Rood was on the same mission during which Kerry was awarded the silver star. He supports Kerry's accounts of what happened during his service in Vietnam. Critics say those accounts are overblown. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have aired one ad criticizing Kerry's service in Vietnam and are planning to air another critical of his post-war actions. The New York Times is now reporting the group that created the ads has close ties to the Bush family and campaign.
