Candidates for national elections have already spent more than a Billion dollars in the 2004 campaign cycle, and there's still two months left to go. At the top of the list is President Bush, who has spent 209 million dollars --according to last month's figures. And a report filed yesterday with the Federal Election Commission -- shows rival John Kerry spent roughly 186 million during the same time. Senate and House candidates have spent nearly 500-million, and national party committees burned through more than 400-million dollars.

A warm spring and a wet summer have led to an early, bountiful harvest for apple growers in Virginia. Some varieties are already being picked, about two weeks earlier than usual. Growers say warm days, cool nights and consistent rainfall have made for an ideal climate for apples. The rain has been particularly appreciated by growers, who have fought a drought for the past four years. And last year, HAIL bruised their fruit. Although growers expect a *robust* harvest, prices of apples are expected to stay the same. Virginia ranks sixth in the nation in apple production.
