JOE WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE DOCTORS FEARED THE AORTIC ANEURYSM COULD BURST. DOCTOR RICHARD GREEN HAD TO PERFORM EMERGENCY SURGERY BUT THERE WERE TWO OPTIONS. IN THE TRADITIONAL PROCEDURE THE PATIENT IS OPENED UP... WHICH MEANS A WEEK OF RECOVERY TIME. DOCTOR GREEN DECIDED TO GO WITH THE NEWER ENDOVASCULAR SURGERY. SMALL INCISIONS WERE MADE IN JOE'S GROIN. A WIRE WAS THEN LED UP THROUGH AN ARTERY AND TO THE ANEURYSM WHERE AN ENDOGRAFT WAS IMPLANTED ALLOWING BLOOD TO FLOW FREELY.

"the procedure itself is much less severe in terms of the stress on the patient, it is often a one to two day hospitalization."
