About 20 blocks of downtown Richmond have been condemned due to damage from the water, which reached up to ten feet.

City officials say the damage will easily be in the millions.

Officials say electricity will be out for some areas for an extended period of time.

They will try to confirm whether reports of funnel clouds in James City and Yorktown were tornadoes.
The fire chief in James City says one hit around 1:40 yesterday and a second came off the James River about an hour later.

SunCom representatives tell us the storm has knocked out its celluar service to both the Richmond and Roanoke areas.

In northern Japan, a typhoon has left at least seven people dead and forced thousands from their homes.

Four people are also missing and presumed dead.
Typhoon Chaba is one of the strongest storms to hit Japan this year-- generating winds of up to 130 miles per hour.


It's also caused blackouts to thousands of homes-- and more than 750 domestic flights were cancelled.
The typhoon's arrival coincides with the highest tides of the year, raising concerns about flood damage.

Roanoke authorities say a house fire this morning arose from a domestic dispute.

Around 4:30, fire broke out in the back bedroom of a home in the 400 block of Arbor Avenue southeast.
Crews got the fire out quickly. No one was hurt.
Officials say the fire was intentionally set, and related to a domestic incident the day before.
They estimate damage at about 15-thousand dollars.

A statement on the Web site vowed to keep fighting Americans in Iraq. At the end of the four- minute video, a man reads another statement off- camera, vowing to fight the Iraqi government.


So far, the Nepalese government says it can't confirm the deaths.

Today is cut- down day in the NFL, as teams must get their rosters down to 65 players. Yesterday, some local products from the area were re- assigned or cut. The Browns placed former Hokie Chad Beasley on injured reserve, while the Dolphins got rid of former UVa receiver Terrence Wilkins.
