More than 200 people will lose their jobs when Vaughan Furniture closes its plant in Patrick County.
The company made the announcement today, citing increased competition from makers of imported bedroom furniture.

Employees will receive severance and employment counseling. They are also eligible for federal assistance with health insurance premiums.
When the Patrick County facility closes, the company will operate two plants and a distribution center in Galax.

Investigators find some answers in a fatal fraternity house fire that killed a student from Martinsville.
Officials now say the fire at the University of Mississippi may have been electrical.

Tickets for the October ninth United Hockey League exhibition game at the Roanoke Civic Center went on sale this morning. As of this afternoon, around 80 tickets had been sold.

The Civic Center has also sold 46 of the season ticket deposit packages at 25 dollars each. The deposit deal is a way to gauge fan interest. The game will feature the Richmond Riverdogs and the Missouri River Otters.

A man who is dubbed Hungary's Houdini... was encased in a four ton concrete block and lowered by crane into the Danube River.
He described it as a frightening nightmare.... but within fifteen minutes, David Merlini was out of the block.
How he did it.. he isn't saying and few people actually witnessed him getting free.
Merlini says the weight of the concrete made it hard to breath.
He says he's trying to emulate American stuntman Harry Houdini. (------------)
