Police in Lynchburg are still looking for several shooting suspects.

Authorities say one person was shot in the chest at the James Crossing Apartment Complex, formerly Greenfield Apartments. It happened between 10-thirty and 10-45 last night. The victim was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. Police are looking for a red Ford Mustang with three or four black males. The suspects are considered armed and dangerous.

Police in Blacksburg are looking for an armed robber. Police say they were called to the Speedway center on Prices Fork Road shortly after nine last night. The clerk told them he had been robbed by a man who came in and demanded money.
The suspect gestured toward his pocket as if he had a gun.
He apparently entered the store from the Food Lion parking lot on foot, and fled in the same direction. The clerk was not injured.

Recovery efforts continue in Richmond as a result of Monday's flash flooding. Governor Mark Warner says an official damage estimate isn't available, but it may run more than 15 million dollars.

Part-time soldiers from Central Virginia are going on active duty.
The Virginia National Guard announced yesterday that 182 soldiers home-based in Farmville are being called to active duty.
They're members of Battery B, Second Battalion, 111th Field Artillery.
The soldiers will begin 18 months of federal service on October 17.
165 National Guard troops from Martinsville and Rocky Mount will go on active duty the following weekend.

Three people in Campbell County received a lifesaving award for helping a man after his truck wrecked and caught fire in May. They managed to get him out, just before the car blew up.

Ryan Shorter wrecked his car on Route 633, when he ran off the road and hit a tree.
The truck was on fire with Shorter trapped inside.
That's when two of Shorter's friends and another man arrived on the scene ... and together they pulled him to safety.

Barbara Allen is the owner of Constantia (Con-stan-zha) -- a reception hall built inside the old Sunnybrook Inn. Allen says she originally wanted to open the hall in July, but a couple of power outages and product delays forced the delay. Now that it's up and running, business seems to be flowing quite well.

Virginia's high school students did better on the Verbal part of the SAT this year, ... but math scores slipped a bit.

Virginians will find it a little more expensive to buy things now, because the tax increases approved by the General Assembly take effect today. The state sales tax is now five cents on the dollar. Smokers will find a 20-cent tax on each pack of cigarettes -- up from two-and-a-half cents.

A man shot last night in Lynchburg has died from his wounds.

Some of the things proposed in the six year plan include expanding pre school programs.
Also, students who are not doing well on the Standards of Learning may be required to attend summer school.

125-residents submitted a petition to Craig County Circuit Court to audit the school system from the '95 - '96 school year to the present. In court documents the group stated it wanted the audit to determine whether there had been any inappropriate spending or any wrong doing. The group also wants any recommendations for improving accounting practices. It's an idea some local residents support.
