Patrick Henry construction supervisor Debbie Daniel tested the air in Parson's Hall every half hour. Carbon monoxide registered well below the accepted level in each room, but as is often the case, while looking into one problem - officials found another.

The unofficial end of summer may be especially quiet on one part of Smith Mountain Lake.

That's because the beach at Smith Mountain Lake State Park has been closed at least until Saturday.
The area around the beach failed a water quality test earlier this week. Another set of test results is expected tomorrow.
State officials say the elevated coliform count is the result of resident geese in the beach area.
The rest of the park, including the boat ramp, will be open this weekend.

Radford University Police say they've solved an assault and robbery case.

Two weeks ago University officials warned students about two violent assaults. This morning police say they arrested a man involved in one of the crimes. 34 year old Lee William Green of Radford is charged with two counts of assault and battery and one count of robbery. Police say he attacked a female student in the parking lot of Moffett Hall and stole her purse. He's being held without bond.

Lynchburg police could still use your help, as they try to figure out who shot and killed a man there Tuesday night.

30-year-old Clyde Arbrey Hilliard died after he was shot in the chest outside the James Crossing apartments on Longview Road.
Interviews with witnesses led investigators to look for four so-called "persons of interest" who may know something about the crime.
Police are still searching for 29-year-old Emmitt Harsley.
Anyone with information about the crime or Harsley's whereabouts is urged to call the Lynchburg police.

Congressman Rick Boucher today announced a 1-point-3 million dollar federal grant for the Virginia Tech/Montgomery County Regional Airport Authority. Six million dollars worth of renovations to City Stadium helped the Hillcats set a new attendance record this year.
More than 148-thousand people came through the turnstiles ... that's 20-thousand more than the previous record set during the championship season of 2002.
Team officials say the record is even more impressive when you consider the number of rainouts and the team's on-field performance this year.
Plans are in the works to add up to six new skyboxes to the stadium before next year.
