A Roanoke neighborhood is mourning the loss of a four- year- old boy who accidentally shot himself yesterday evening.
Neighbors say the child was sitting in the front seat of his father's Cadillac when he found a gun that went off and killed him.

The health department has lifted a ban on swimming at Smith Mountain Lake State Park.

The swimming area was closed yesterday after routine water tests revealed dangerously high levels of fecal coliform (kahl-i-form). Park officials say the elevated levels are from the waste of geese who've taken up residency on the beach. They believe the birds were run-off from another part of the lake.

The company says competition from foreign furniture makers is forcing it to close the plant. Employees will get severance packages and employment counseling.
