The National Hurricane Center has downgraded Frances to tropical storm status. Its maximum sustained winds are near 70
miles-an-hour. Now, forecasters say Frances could regain *hurricane* strength before slamming into the Florida panhandle. More than four million homes lost power, and three deaths are being blamed on the storm.

((Frances isn't done yet... what was Eastern Florida's problem - is about to be shared with the pan handle. Hurricane Frances is bearing down on the area around Apalachicola. Expected for the region - powerful winds, and unrelenting rain are on the way. It is a slow moving storm - flooding could be disastrous - residents have been warned.

"most deaths and injuries come from inland flooding" When Frances crawled into florida - it hovered for hours - leaving 5 million w/o power trees on the ground and leaving much of the area flooded. From space its as though Frances wiped out the entire state. Bridge Donelan reporting bad news at the fort pierce marina - hurricane Frances caused this pile up - boats piled up on one another the smell of gas is thick there were 30 boats here - the rest of them are under water.

Clinton has been in a New York hospital since Friday after suffering chest pains and shortness of breath. C-B-S News has learned that the surgery will start at 7-thirty. Some heart surgeons wonder why Clinton wasn't given bypass surgery immediately. In a statement released on his Web site, the Clinton family says it feels ``very lucky'' the condition was spotted in time.

Japanese news reports say the first quake had a magnitude of six-point-nine on the Richter scale, INJURING five people. The other occurred just hours later -- measuring seven-point-three, and injuring nine others. Damage appears to be limited because both quakes were far off the coast. But, forecasters warn that tsunamis could hit broad areas on the Pacific Coast -- in central to western Japan.

Close to five-thousand spectators came out yesterday to watch the fast and furious wiener dogs waddle their way around the track for the annual Wiener Nationals. The pooch that could scooch to the finish line the fastest won a trip to San Diego for the national finals. Owners of the dog track say the event outdraws their usual greyhound races. All the proceeds from the event went to the Arizona Adopt-a-Greyhound program.

Late in the race Dale Earnhardt, Jr. blew a tire and smacked the backstretch wall.

The couple met two years ago and have worked in the store with each other ever since. Employees say they have seen it coming from the beginning-- the couple has been inseparable since the day they met.
