Good Morning, I'm Joy Sutton. We'll check in with Brent Watts in just a few minutes, but first -
Hurricane Frances is still a category two Hurricane --but she's expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm later today.
She has dumped some 20 inches of rain in parts of Florida. And forecasters say the worst may be yet to come for some Floridians.
Frances is still churning very slowly across Florida --as she continues to make her way across the state.
For the latest on Hurricane Frances we go to Sara Dorsey in Melbourne, Florida.

(( AFTER MORE THAN A DAY OF STALLING, THE EYE OF HURRICANE FRANCES MADE LANDFALL EARLY THIS MORNING AT SEAWALLS POINT JUST SOUTH OF FORT PIERCE. TREES SNAPPED UNDER THE SUSTAINED 105 MILE PER HOUR WINDS. NEAR FORT PIERCE, GUSTS WERE RECORDED UP TO 115 MILES PER HOUR. BOATS ROCKED ON THE CHURNING SEAS, BARELY HOLDING TO THE MOORINGS.

Fortunately, I moved my boat and my stuff out of the way. It could have took my boat out. Just two days ago, I couldn't get my car in my garage and I had to clean that up. I put everything away and this is what I ended up with today.
Lot of damage around this area, so it's been pretty rough around here. Everybody's now recuperating and now here we go back again.

THE DAMAGE CAN ALREADY BE SEEN IN MANY AREAS UP AND DOWN THE EAST COAST LINE AND IT'S NOT OVER YET. FORECASTERS BELIEVE THE SLOW MOVING STORM WILL DUMP BETWEEN EIGHT AND 12 INCHES OF RAIN BUT SOME AREAS COULD SEE AS MUCH AS 20 INCHES BEFORE HURRICANE FRANCES MOVES OUT.

IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, A RUPTURED GAS MAIN SENT FLAMES DANCING INTO THE AIR. THE MAYOR THERE IS ASKING PEOPLE TO BE PATIENT, SAYING HELP WILL BE ON THE WAY AS SOON AS THE WEATHER SUBSIDES.
We want to determine quickly whether there are individuals who need medical assistance, where there's housing needs in the community. That assessment will be done quickly after the hurricane warning is lifted. ))

Clinical trials are underway at a Roanoke practice to test out a new screening device for breast cancer.

((IT WAS SHARP PAIN ALL THE TIME. I HAD POOR CIRCULATION. MY HANDS AND FEET STAY COLD ALL THE TIME AND MY LEGS WERE COLD AT NIGHT))
[RUNS= 13]

Peripheral vascular disease is a hardening of the arteries that can lead to blockages cutting off or limiting blood supply to the legs.
(///// SOT /////)
[SOT]
[IN Q=The main risk factors are]

((THE MAIN RISK FACTORS ARE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, SMOKING, AND DIABETES. AND THE OTHER PROBLEMS OF HIGH CHOLESTEROL WILL BE AN ISSUE. THOSE PROBLEMS ALL ADDED TOGETHER IN A PATIENTS BODY OVER TIME WILL CREATE PLAQUES OR NARROW THICKENING OF THE INNER LINING OF THE ARTERIES))
[RUNS= 20]
[OUT Q=of the arteries]

Some of the symptoms of the disease include leg pain,cold feet or legs, numbness and tingling in the legs and feet, and non-healing sores.
Those who have the disease are at increased risk for having heart disease down the line. That's why Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital is offering free screenings next Saturday.
[TAPE#=504-00 1:47:09]

In other news, if you live long enough chances are you will develop cataracts. They occur when the lens becomes cloudy from the build-up of shedded cells that deposit over time on the lens.
(///// SOT /////)
[IN Q=As you know with your skin, new skin]

[RUNS= 13]
[OUT Q=and become cloudy]

That's why you're more at risk for cataracts as you age. Other risk factors include family history, medical problems, such as diabetes, high salt intake, long term unprotected exposure to sunlight and previous eye injury.
If you develop cataracts surgery can restore vision -- by removing the old lenses--and replacing it with a new one.

[TAPE 504-00 @ 1:45:10]
And finally in health news, could their be an improvement to the mammogram --that's what doctors are investigating with a new screening device call the Z-Tech breast scan.
[IN Q=We know mammography now misses one]

((WE KNOW MAMMOGRAPHY NOW MISSES ONE OUT SIX BREAST CANCERS. AND TO US THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE IN ADDITION MAMMOGRAPHY IS PAINFUL FOR SOME WOMEN AND IT'S INCONVENIENT FOR MOST WOMEN. SO OUR GOAL IS TO FIND OTHER WAYS TO IMPROVE THE DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER AND THIS IS ONE OF THOSE POSSIBILITIES))
[RUNS= 20]
[OUT Q=one of those possibilities.]

With this technology sensors are placed on the breast and an electrical current is sent through the breast tissue to detect any differences that may indicate cancer.
