A Florida businessman says he can reduce the strength of Hurricane Ivan.
Peter Cordani has been working on his hurricane-fighting plan for years. He's trying to lease a Boeing 747 tanker plane -- and then fly it to the edge of the hurricane, to dump thousands of pounds of the absorbent material his company makes.
Cordani figures he could knock Ivan down a notch or two on the hurricane scale.
A professor at the International Hurricane Center at Florida International University has said ideas like Cordani's aren't realistic -- either because they'd be way too expensive, or because they're based on a lack of understanding of meteorology or science.
