Reid's attorneys tried to stop last night's execution by arguing that it's unconstitutional. They believe it constitutes cruel and unusual punishment because Reid could have felt pain before he died.
The I-V line was placed in Reid's right upper groin, because his veins in his arms apparently had deteriorated from years of drinking. It took medical technicians 12 minutes -- three times longer than usual- to place the I-V lines in Reid. His execution is the fifth in Virginia this year.
