(("Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" (Paramount Pictures) Review by: Joel Sink What do you get when film making and fine art collide? You get a dazzling film called "Sky Captain"! It's 1939 and Gwyneth Paltrow is spunky New York newspaper reporter Polly Perkins. Some pretty strange things are going on in the world. Scientists are disappearing and giant robots are stealing large pieces of mechanical equipment. A scientist approaches Polly and tells her that he will be the next to disappear. Their meeting is interrupted by giant robots descending on New York and taking control of the city. Polly is trying to take pictures of the robots approach and finds herself surrounded with no escape. Joe Sullivan (Jude Law) shows up in a vintage fighter plane and helps Polly escape. We find out that Polly and Joe (a.k.a. Sky Captain) were former love interests. Giovanni Ribisi is Dex Dearborn. Sort of a retro inventor "M" from the James Bond films. Dex is kidnapped by the giant robots so Polly and Joe have to rescue him and discover who is behind the strange events. Watching this movie reminded me of the first time I saw "Raiders of the Lost Ark". "Sky Captain" is unlike anything I have seen before. The look of this film is dazzling. The actors were shot against blue screen and all of the other elements were added later with computer graphics. During the summer I railed on "Van Helsing" for relying too much on computer graphics. This film elevates computer graphics to a new level. The graphics, the actors, and the story all work together here. Jude Law is an excellent actor who is not afraid to take chances (A.I.). Gwyneth Paltrow also a good actor is charming and funny. Angelina Jolie does not have much screen time, but still brings her unique presence to the film. Giovanni Ribisi is endearing in his inventor role. "Sky Captain" is a milestone in filmmaking. Sit back, watch, and be dazzled. Joel's take: 9 out of 10 Rated: PG ))

Now, this weather-related program note. Our special coverage pre-empted CBS daytime programming Friday afternoon. If you want to see those programs, here is what we have arranged.
(+++++++)

[Take Program FS Event629] Set your VCR's for 12:05 Monday morning for the Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, As the World Turns, and Guiding Light. And to be on the safe side, make sure to keep recording until 4-45 AM, just in case Sunday football games cause our nightime lineup to start later than scheduled. That's 12-05 to 4:45 AM on Monday. [TAKE WEBPAGE FS E522] For a complete list of closings and cancellations you can visit our website at W-D-B-J dot Com.
