Good afternoon everybody and welcome to Friday Football Extra week four party. In the next thirty minutes we'll have your highlights from Narrows to Danville, plus welcome a new player of the week to the program and have a special visit from the one and only Heisman Trophy.
[GRAPHIC=NORTHSIDE/SALEM]

But first - we open things up in Salem where it's been so far so good for Steve Magenbauer in his first year as head coach of the Spartans. The City of Champions' favorite son has Salem unbeaten heading into tonight's game with winless Northside.

[SUPER=53-Salem/Northside vs. Salem; :00]

The Spartans honored former Salem Spartan and Virginia Tech public address announcer Pete Petersen for over 50 years of faithful service to the valley! The man who brought us the slashing tackle! Northside would have to punt on its first drive and Dustin Pickle will make the return 26 yards after fielding the ball to set up the first Salem score of the night.
Andre Hairston was still out tonight, but Joey Daniels was in the house and in the endzone as he darts up the sideline 30 yards for the touchdown. Salem takes a 7-to-nothing lead on the Vikes. On the Spartans' next possession - they will go to the air and Matt Shawver will hook up with Bryan Webb for 17 yards and another TD. It's now a 14-to-nothing game in favor of the Spartans. In the second, Northside is pinned back at its own seven and sophomore Grandin Van Marter and Antonie Lawless miscommunicate the pitch. Salem falls on the ball at the one.
[SUPER=50-Northside/0/Salem/50;]

Joey Daniels then punches it in from the one. Salem stays unbeaten with the 50 to 0 win over Northside.

[SUPER=53-Roanoke Co./Tunstall vs. Hidden Valley;]

Trojans' head coach Buddy Brown a veteran of many, many Friday night, took on the rookie head coach J.R. Edwards tonight. This game would be scoreless until late in the third quarter when the Titans Tyler Coyer hit tightend Greg Matthews on a 16 yard gain to move the chains. First down Titans. A few plays later on a second and goal. Coyer will find Matthews open for the score. Hidden Valley gets the first points of the night - 6-to-nothing Titans. On the ensuing kickoff Mario Huffman will field the ball, and follow his blockers to the left side of the field. He will put on a show in front of his own sideline breaking a pile of tackles and eventually going 80 yards on the play for the touchdown. Tunstall takes a 7-to-6 lead. Hidden Valley would look to come back in the fourth quarter, but the Titans get a little greedy and Travis Terry will get the interception from the Trojans in Tunstall territory to halt that drive. But the home boys would get the ball back with under two minutes to play. This time Coyer goes over the middle to backup Josiah Goins, who fills in with the clutch catch. He will then take it to the house for the go-ahead-score. Hidden Valley takes a 14-to-7 lead after the two point conversion.
[SUPER=50-Tunstall/9/Hidden Valley/14;]

Goins would then ice it as he picks off the desperation pass in the closing seconds. Hidden Valley gets its second win of the season 14-to-9 over Tunstall.

[SUPER=53-Liberty/William Byrd vs. Liberty; :00]

A big crowd was on hand in Bedford tonight to see the Minutemen take care of business. Byrd's backed up to punt in the first, and it is blocked by Zach Webb who also picks it up and runs it in for the TD to make it 7-to-nothing Liberty. The Terriers would recover from that and come back on the ground. Billy Ray Welch will find some running room and scoots in for the TD. The Terriers tie it up at 7-all still in the first quarter. Liberty would regain the upper hand as the big man O.B. Blake keeps the rock and scores with 10 minutes left in the first half. He score on the near side to make 14-to-7. The Minutemen make it 21-to-7 when Steven Toler gets loose down the far sideline and scampers in for the TD.

Liberty would extend the lead as Scott Bryant bulls his way in. Liberty beats William Byrd 34-to-7 to stay unbeaten on the season.

Dan Greene Stadium was the site for this non-district encounter. We pick it up with Heritage on top 7-to-6, and it looks like the Dogs are ready to take the lead going into halftime as Steve Henderson takes on a 70 yard gallop. But the score it wiped out by a penalty. It's 7-to-6 Heritage at halftime. Martinsville would continue to hurt its own cause as Quan Beamer throws the pass, that's tipped and picked off by John Mills who makes the return to end the Bulldog drive. Martinsville would again give up the football. Beamer's pass to Mike Reid it caught, but then fumbled and Heritage's Geoff Markay recovers for the Pioneers. Heritage would finally put the game away in the fourth with a couple of TDs.

[GRAPHIC=GRETNA/BROOKVILLE]

The Gretna Hawks were back home last night taking on Seminole member Brookville in what shaped up to be a high scoring affair - at least on paper.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-Gretna/Brookville vs. Gretna; :00]

The Hawks charged the field trying to avoid the sting of the Bees and keep their unblemished record in tact. Just over three minutes into the game, it's Vic Hall getting the party started with the beautiful 46 yard TD pass to Jason Myers. It's 7-to-nothing Hawks right out of the gate. Brookville had the answer though. Quarterback Steve Simms is looking for his wideout Ryan Jackson, and watch Jackson not only come down with the rock, but manage to keep his balance and take it the distance. The 63 yard score makes it 7-to-7. But that momentum faded fast. The ensuing kickoff is fielded by Rico Reynolds at his own 13, and he shows his special teams skills flying down the sideline and racing by photographer Greg Moore before finally getting knocked out at the 8. It's an 80 yard return. Hall would then give Gretna the lead back just 20 seconds after losing it on the 8 yard TD run. It's 13-to-7 Hawks.
[SUPER=50-Brookville/35/Gretna/55;]

And there is more where that came from. Hall takes off from the Brookville 20 and he will again find the endzone. It's 21-to-7 Hawks and Gretna stays unbeaten with the 55 to 35 win.

Coach Dan Newell and his Eagles had a 14-to-nothing lead at the break despite struggling on offense for much of the first half. GW chalked its mistakes up to missing by inches which is exactly what happens here as Herbie Williams just misses hauling in a touchdown from quarterback Cameron Martin. The Eagles would eventually find their offensive groove. Martin, a future Virginia Tech Hokies, scores on the 14 yard quarterback keeper, to make it 21-to-nothing GW. The defense would get on the scoreboard, as well. Antoine Williams picks off the Cordero Tanner pass and he will return it 20 yards for the touchdown. It's not often someone six-four and 210 pounds scores a TD on a pick. The Eagles are soaring up 28-to-nothing.
[SUPER=50-Dan River/6/G.W. Danville/36;]

Marion Walton would join the touchdown bonanza on this six yard gallop. G.W. Danville overcomes a slow start to rally back and beat Dan River 36-to-6.

This time from the Narrows 7, Cook brings it right at you for the touchdown. It's now 14-to-nothing Spartans on top. Giles would keep pouring it on in the second quarter. From the Narrows' three, Cook will get it in the zone again. It's now a 21-to-nothing game in favor of Giles. One more time in the first half from its own 49, Giles will

The Cougar band was rocking the house as Covington held on to a 7-to-nothing halftime lead. The Highlanders were working to make a comeback in the third against a tough Cougar defense, and Glenvar quarterback Daniel Ayers - airs it out over the middle, and it's picked off by Jesse Forbes around the 30 yard line. On the next play, Shorty Wolfe takes the keeper through the pile and he will put his Cougars on top 14-to-nothing in the third quarter. To open the fourth, Ayers will roll out to his left and connect with Devon Hackett in traffic. He pulls it down for 18 yards on the play. Then from the 12, Ayers lets Mick Wade carry it off the left side for the touchdown on the stretch. To make it 14-to-6.

(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-New Castle/Auburn vs. Craig Co.; :00]

The Rockets were busy loading their powder for tonight's clash with the Eagles. The Rockets would launch into action early in the fourth quarter as Brock Jones tosses the screen pass to Casey Hancock, and he will turn it upfield, dodging his way into the open and then outrunning everybody to the endzone. The 48 yard score makes it 6-to-nothing Craig. Craig would then start a drive from its own 46, and Jones will again give it to Hancock. This time he takes it to the left side and again his great quickness will get him to the corner and into the clear to make it 12-to-nothing on the 54 yard gallop. Craig would then generate some offense with Richard Jones pulling in this pass and he will pick up 22 yards on the play before ending up upside down. Brock Jones will throw the screen pass again to Casey Hancock and pick up an additional five yards on the play.
[super=50-Auburn/15/Craig Co./24;]

Auburn would struggle mightily on the offensive side as the Eagles fumble away this opportunity and Craig County gets to 500 on the season with the 24 to 15 win.
