Neighbors call it a lover's quarrel turned deadly. That after deputies say a Martinsville man went on a violent crime spree in a Henry County neighborhood -- leaving his ex-girlfriend stabbed to death. Jennifer Wishon talked to neighbors today and has more.

It started here. Deputies say just before noon 36- year- old John Gregory Draper of Martinsville knocked at the door of this Henry County home. Armed with an ax he made his way into the home under the pretense of needing to use the phone. Once inside, officials say he sexually assaulted a 53- year -old woman and grabbed a knife before leaving.

Magee was Draper's ex- girlfriend and officials say the former couple had a history of domestic problems. When Magee answered the door Draper forced his way inside. Shortly there after deputies surrounded the house. While trying to negotiate with Draper they heard Magee scream and entered to find the woman stabbed multiple times in the chest and shoulder. She was taken to the hospital where she later died. Jose Redd lives up the street and says he never knew Draper to be a violent person.

One man is dead and another injured after an accident on Interstate 81 today.

One southbound lane of traffic was shut down after a pick-up truck wrecked near the weigh station in Botetourt County around 3:30 this afternoon. State Police say 75 year old John Oliver Stein (stine) from Roanoke was driving. He suffered a broken collar bone and was taken to Roanoke Memorial. Stein's brother-in-law -- 81 year old William Lewis Holcombe from Arizona -- died in the crash. Stein told police he fell asleep, ran off the road and overcorrected causing the truck to flip. Both men were wearing seat belts. Stein was charged with wreckless driving.

The 15th annual "Henry Street Heritage Festival" got underway today at Elmwood Park. The smell of food filled the air -- while national acts performed on stage. All proceeds benefit the Harrison Museum of African American Culture. Last year, the event generated nearly 20- thousand- dollars and organizers hope to double that amount this year. Back in April, a lack of funds forced museum staff to work as volunteers, but board members say things are now looking up. Once renovations are complete, the museum plans to move into the historic Dumas (Doo-muhs) Hotel on First Street.

Runners of all ages took part in the annual Marine Mud Run. The 5- K course at Greenhill Park ends with a pit of mud courtesy of local fire departments. Last year, the event raised 15- thousand dollars for Toys-for-Tots and Camp Roanoke. This year, proceeds will also go towards a new scholarship.

Dustin Hamoy takes the pitch and scoots around the left side and into the endzone for a 7-nothing Ferrum lead in the second quarter.

But Shenandoah's Jon Hoffman fought his way into the endzone from a yard out to start the third quarter.

Keith Smith and company led 3-nothing in the first quarter thanks to a Troy Dempsey field goal.

The Colonels Dere Hicks then drops back, buys himself some time and airs it out for Ronnie Thompson who takes a lick, but holds on to the pigskin at the one to setup a Dwayne Priest score.

Kevin Crouse had a big night for the Cougs. He takes the handoff and finds daylight right down the middle of the field. Crouse carries the mail 54 yards to the zone and just like that it was 7-zip.
He was just getting started. This time Crouse turns the corner and then turns on the jets, taking this one in for a 32 yard score.
