A hot air balloon pilot died in a crash over the weekend in West Virginia.
State Police say 30-year old Matthew Jacobsen was killed Saturday in the White Sulphur Springs area.
Jacobsen landed the balloon after taking six passengers for a ride but when everyone got off it started rising again.
State troopers say the balloon was 75 to 80 feet in the air when it hit some trees and Jacobsen fell.

Louis Harrison says he relied on inaccurate documents that showed the D-Day Memorial had enough pledges to serve as collateral for a multi-million dollar bank loan.
Burrow has stated he relied on Harrison's legal advice when he applied for the loan to keep construction on the monument going.
Harrison testified today Burrow didn't give him the pledge sheets he relied on for his legal opinion.
Also today, former Foundation board member Skip Tharp said he felt Burrow was deliberately misleading the board about the Memorial's financial well-being.
Burrow was forced to resign when it became clear the Foundation was millions of dollars in debt.

An inmate escaped today from the New River Valley Regional Jail but was caught an hour later. Police say Richard Dale Hunley, three other inmates and a corrections officer were on the loading dock throwing away trash around 1:45 in the afternoon when Hunley climbed a security fence and made his escape. Police officers from Radford and Dublin found Hunley about an hour later along state route 6-11. He's been taken back to the jail and charged with Felony escape.

Virginia Tech Police are investigating a possible hate crime on campus. Someone wrote racial slurs on the door of the N-Double-A-C-P office at Squires Student Center. They also smeared a substance believed to be mud on the window. The vandalism was discovered by the student organization early Sunday morning and was cleaned up before police arrived. Anyone who saw anything suspicious at Squires over the weekend is asked to call Tech Police.

It's been a mixed bag of news kind of day for the Virginia Cavaliers today. 12th ranked UVa picked up another player of the week honor, but also lost one of its stars for the rest of the season.

((2005 national championship Orange Bowl committee members watched the UVa-Syracuse game from a box suite. The committee was sweet on Virginia, although the final BCS standings determine who goes to the national championship this year at Pro Player Stadium. ((:))
Marquis Hagans has four touchdown passes and has thrown for 770 yards in four games. He leads the ACC in completion rate at over 76 percent and has a rating of 182.9. His play so far has lessened the loss of Matt Schaub and answered the question for now if he could run the offense, a unit a top the ACC in scoring and in yards. Two former Hokies are headed in opposite directions in the training room. Ben Taylor has torn the tendon in his pectoral muscle. He'll have surgery tomorrow to reattach it and he is out for the season.

On the up-side Lee Suggs was cleared by doctors today to return to practice at full speed tomorrow. Suggs hasn't played since the team's third preseason game because of a neck stinger. Suggs said that doctors have held him out because he hasn't had enough strength in his arm to protect himself. The Browns host the Redskins this coming Sunday.

The rain today could not stop the Pioneer district golf tournament from taking place at the Botetourt Country Club.

As expected James River dominated the tournament, sweeping the top four finishing positions for a 53 stroke win over runner-up Bath County. Colin McConchie, Marshall Bailey, Josh Walton and Kyle Bailey finished first through fourth. Both the Knights and Chargers advance to regionals next Tuesday at Draper Valley.
