US Airways and at least one union have tentatively agreed on a new contract.

Details of the agreement are being withheld until the union can present the contract to the flight crew training instructors. The carrier is seeking 23 percent pay cuts from all its union workers -- that's according to union leaders who received the request. Union officials say the cuts are difficult to take, but are needed to preserve the ailing airline. US Airways filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month --the second time in two years.

Viewers of WDBJ rarely saw John Harkrader on the air -- but no one was more influential in the development of the television station.
Harkrader -- WDBJ's former president and general manager -- died yesterday morning at the age of 88.

Born and raised in Wytheville, Harkrader received a scholarship to Roanoke College, an opportunity he described as his "window to the world."
He went to work for WDBJ radio in 1938 as a part time announcer and salesman, and led the television station through many milestones, including the construction of a new building on Colonial Avenue, the introduction of color tv and the sale of the station to new owners.
