As the Roanoke River poured into Victory Stadium and over the streets in that part of the city, it brought back memories of the flood of 1985.
Anyone who was alive then and flew over Salem today might be forgiven for thinking the same thing.
Closer to its source in Montgomery County, the torrent of water reminded people there of flooding some 35 years ago.

The Roanoke River is prone to flooding, but this bad?
This is probably the worst we've seen it more than a year and the pictures prove it. (shots of river eller flooding at 7:04)
Many roadways around Victory Stadium were completely under water.
Franklin Road also saw plenty of flooding and even mudslides. (eller flooding 4:37)

Many vehicles had to be moved out like this one from the National Guard Armory on Reserve Ave. (reserve ave tape 9:55:35)
As a result, some bridges had to be turned into make shift parking lots. (eller flooding 11:28)
The high waters also prompted evacuations like the one here at Ramada Inn on Franklin Road. (eller flooding 8:31)
As you can see, water was even flowing through the walkways. (eller flodding 9:37)
Many others like the employees here at Blue Ridge Tire Warehouse (afternoon flooding tape at 2:34) had to be rescued by boat. (afternoon flooding tape 5:34)
Scenes like this were abundant throughout the day. (another resuce afternoon flooding at 1:34)
Everyone however got out safely.
As a precaution, Roanoke Memorial Hospital evacuated kids from the nearby Honeytree daycare because of access issues. (HONEYTREE TAPE)
