Some big changes to Virginia Military Institute and the City of Lexington are coming much sooner than expected.

That's because the school has already secured several donors.
The money will be used for new athletic fields, expanding current buildings, and the construction of several new ones.

The Roanoke man who killed his fianc� and three of her children last year has been convicted of capital murder.

What was set for a 2-week jury trial, boiled down to a one-hour "no contest" plea yesterday morning. Even as 31-year old Clinton Brathwaite accepted an agreement that means he'll never get out of the penitentiary, he was still fuming about the story that he tried to have one of the witnesses killed. Once Brathwaite's pleas were accepted, the prosecutor acknowledged the contract hit was nothing more than a rumor from other inmates.

An inmate escaped from the New River Valley Regional Jail but was caught an hour later. Police say Richard Dale Hunley, three other inmates and a corrections officer were on the loading dock throwing away trash around 1:45 yesterday afternoon when Hunley climbed a security fence and made his escape. Police officers from Radford and Dublin found Hunley about an hour later along state route 6-11. He's been taken back to the jail and charged with Felony escape.
