As the vice-presidential candidates were warming up for the debate, the House of Representative was putting a military draft bill on ice.
Only two lawmakers, Democrats from Pennsylvania and California, voted for the measure.
Even the bill's Democratic sponsor voted against it.

That's the request of health officials in Virginia who want to save the vaccine for people at high risk of serious complications if they catch the disease. The company that makes about half the flu vaccine for the United States had its license suspended in Britain today. British health officials cite problems at the plant but wouldn't provide specifics. The move could mean major flu shot shortages in the U.S.

67-year old Ray Clamback spent more than seven hours treading water in the open ocean after crashing his plane about 750 miles south of Oahu, Hawaii. After being spotted by coast guard rescuers and climbing into a life raft he spent ANOTHER nine hours waiting for a rescue ship. He was eventually picked up by a Los Angeles bound cargo ship.
