Twice now, the government has failed to convince a majority on the two juries that Burrow was guilty of fraud.

The U-S Attorney announced today that he will ask the court to dismiss the fraud case AND perjury charges that grew out of the first trial.

The defense says jurors in the second case indicated that they were deadlocked ten to two in favor of acquittal on at least some counts, eight to four on others. In a written statement FAXed to the media this afternoon, U-S Attorney John Brownlee was quoted as saying: "After two deadlocked juries and mistrials, it is clear that opinions as to Mr. Burrow's guilt are divided." D-Day veteran Bob Slaughter has said all along that he didn't feel Burrow should have been tried the first time.

A Vinton man faces felony charges after police say they found prescription and illegal narcotics in his apartment.

23-year-old Kevin Lee Tolley was taken into custody last night.

Police executed a search warrant of his apartment in the 100-block of Lee Avenue just before 11 o'clock. Authorities say they found marijuana, more than 35-pills of the seizure medication -Klonopin and countless doses of Methodone.

State Police say a truck driver from Riner was talking on his cell phone around 5:00 this morning when he lost control of his tractor trailer carrying 4-thousand gallons of milk and it flipped over a guardrail. It happened in the southbound lane near milemarker 109. Traffic has been down to one lane for more than eight hours. 37- year old Brian Linn Underwood was trapped in the cab of the truck for more than three hours with two broken legs.


Police say charges are pending.

A man was arrested this morning in Blacksburg for some politically-oriented vandalism.

Last night officers found "Dump Bush" and "No War Anytime" stenciled in red paint on several traffic control boxes, signs and dumpsters. The graffiti was spread along South Main Street and Country Club Drive. 48 year old Joseph Patrick McTaggart from Garner, North Carolina was arrested and charged with three misdemeanor counts of destruction of property. Police say McTaggart was recently employed in the area and vandalized at least eleven locations.

Sometimes family members disagree. Terry Schiavo has been in a persistant vegetative state for 14 years. Her husband claims she told when she was 25 that she would not to be kept alive artificially.
He wants her feeding tube removed, but the woman's parents are fighting to keep her alive. The case has been in the courts for years. A hearing this week still hasn't resolved it.
