Another person has been convicted in the public corruption scandal involving some Buchanan County officials.
51 year old Ricky Allen Adkins pleaded guilty to his role in bilking the county out of thousands of dollars as the personal servant to the former Board of Supervisors Stuart Ray Blakenship.

The federal and state investigation known as "Operation Big Coon Dog" stems back to the awarding of contracts for clean-up work following the 2002 floods.
Buchanan County officials and business leaders were charged with giving coon dogs, trucks, and cash in exchange for lucrative flood clean-up jobs.

Adkins admitted he billed the county for thousands of hours of bogus overtime for work such as feeding and cleaning out the kennels for Blakenship's coon dogs.
He at first argued his innocence -- but later in seeking mercy from the judge --said-quote-- You can see I'm not the smartest person in the world.
Adkins faces up to 10 years in prison and a 250-thousand dollar fine.

(("Shall We Dance?" (Miramax Pictures) Review by: Joel Sink ROMANCE IS NOT DEAD! It found a warm, comfortable home in "Shall We Dance?". John Clark (Richard Gere) is husband, father, attorney, and bored with his good life. Susan Sarandon is John's wife, Beverly. (Have I mentioned that Susan Sarandon is a goddess?) One night on his way home, John sees heart-broken Paulina (Jennifer Lopez) staring out of the window of a dance studio. He watches for her each night on his way home until one night he gets the courage to get off the train and go up the stairs to the dance studio. He is so taken with dance instructor Paulina, that he takes a beginner's ballroom dance class. At first John is smitten with Paulina, but as his class progresses, he realizes that his real passion is for the steps he's working so hard to learn. John's big mistake is not telling his wife why he's spending so many late nights in the city. Beverly begins to suspect that John is having an affair and hires a private detective (Richard Jenkins) to follow him. John has jeopardized the future of his family all because of a whim one night on the train. Will he be able to patch everything up and save his marriage? Only one way to find out. I can already hear the guys saying "chick flick". Well, yea, it probably is a chick flick, but so what? If you've ever loved someone and gotten bored with the relationship you will understand this movie. It's all about romance and the lost art of charm. The script is a little sloppy here and there, but I found myself not really caring. There are so many wonderful moments here, that you can overlook the ones that aren't so great. I like Richard Gere, I love Susan Sarandon ( have I mentioned that she is a goddess?) and J-Lo is hot no matter what. The stand out actor here is Lisa Ann Walter (sort of a poor man's Bette Midler). She is a dumpy, middle aged wannabe who hangs out in the dance studio hoping to be something more than she is. One of the best moments in the movie is when she has her moment in the spotlight. If only we could all be so lucky to shine that bright. There are some other fine performances here, Stanley Tucci as John's co-worker, Bobby Cannavale and Omar Miller as two of the other beginner dancers bring heart to this picture. "Shall We Dance" stumbles in a couple of places, but it more than makes up for clumsiness with charm and warmth. Rated: PG-13 Joel's take: 8 out of 10 ))
