It's been debated for years but tonight city council gave VDOT a green light to start tearing down the Worsham Street Bridge in Danville.
However, the city left the door open for a compromise.

So city council says it is willing to revisit the issue if an historical group can raise the money to save it.
But to do that will require several million dollars.

As a result, the city closed the bridge in July.
