Roanoke police have two men in custody after a shooting at the Laurel Ridge Apartments.

Police say around three this morning two men entered 31 year old Vincent King's apartment on Old Spanish Trail. According to police the two assailants shot King in the neck, abducted his girlfriend, and fled the scene. Roanoke police later stopped a vehicle and found King's girlfriend. 36 year old Maurice White is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and abduction. 36 year old Wayne McDonald is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Both suspects are being held without bond in the City Jail. King is in stable condition at Roanoke Memorial.

Two S-U-V's then crashed into the truck- and caught fire.

Nextel Cup qualifying finally got underway around 3:40 this afternoon and with 50 cars trying to make the Subway 500, it just wrapped a few minutes ago. Ryan Newman, who has dominated time trials at this place on the old concrete was one of the first ten drivers to hit the new surface today and he was able to hold and win the pole for the Subway 500. His teammate Rusty Wallace is second with Dale Junior third.
