Hendrick's first win as a car owner came in Martinsville with Geoffrey Bodine behind the wheel 20 years ago this past spring. Johnson was unaware of the plane crash and its circumstances prior to the event and didn't learn about it until the race was over.
17 cautions slowed the action. Ricky Rudd went on a spin-o-rama thanks to Jeff Green.
Then later, Rudd is on the other end, moving Robby Gordon up and out of the way.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. had a miserable afternoon. Junior had all kinds of problems and was never a factor in finishing 33rd.
Kurt Busch expanded his points lead to 96 over Jeff Gordon with a 5th place effort.
But it was Johnson who held off Jamie McMurray, Ryan Newman, and Rusty Wallace for the win. Johnson did not do any post race interviews and the victory lane ceremony was cancelled in light of the day's events. All four Hendrick drivers went right to the Nascar trailer after the race.
