Ten people died when the Hendrick Motorsports plane went down on Bull Mountain. An official with General Aviation at the Danville airport says the weather may have been a factor. At least 20 pilots heading to Martinsville used his facility because they felt it the fog made it too dangerous to land at the Blue Ridge airport.

Matt Broughton has been flying for nearly 20-years and says an airport like Roanoke is tougher to navigate than the Martinsville-Blue Ridge Airport in Spencer. The runway is a straight shot with mountains nearly seven-miles around the edge of the airport.
