Effinger Elementary was originally left out of a plan to upgrade three schools at the same time. This week, the Board of Supervisors approved 3-point-8 million dollars for the work. School officials say now, all of the county's five elementary schools will be brought up to current standards. Effinger is the smallest school in Rockbridge County, with 116 students.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board say the Hendrick plane did not transmit a distress call before the crash. Today, they confirmed that navigational aids at the Blue Ridge Airport were working properly.

as the first F-A-22 Raptor rolled out of Lockheed-Martin's plant in Georgia. The fighter jet was the first off the assembly line and is now headed for Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. Air Force officials say it is the most technically advanced fighter ever built. The Raptors are being produced at a cost of about 130-million dollars each. The jet is described as operationally ready but will undergo some fine tuning before being flown to Virginia in a few months. The Pentagon's purchase plans call for 276 Raptors. The order extends through 2013.

They've created a haunted house in Rochester New York entirely out of balloons. It took 70-thousand to build the frame and displays in what they're calling "Balloon Manor." Larry Moss and Don Caldwell started working on the design in January. The house itself took five days to construct.
