Roanoke County's registrar is retiring.
Diane Henson has been the registrar for nearly thirty years, but she plans to step down November 12. Judith Stokes, who is currently Chief of Staff for Salem Delegate Morgan Griffith, will take the reigns. Roanoke's Electoral Board voted unanimously to appoint Stokes.
They say they felt it was important to select a candidate with a strong background and understanding of the electoral process and new voting technology. Board members say Henson will be missed. Stokes' term will end June 30, 2007.
