Route 220 was closed for more than seven-hours Saturday morning after police say a hit and run driver caused a four-car accident.
18-year-old Shannon Cochran was driving Southbound on 220 just after two o'clock when another car cut her off at a high rate of speed.

Initially Cochran and her three-passengers were okay, suffering only minor injuries. Three of the four had exited the vehicle when the car was hit by a Chevy Blazer -crushing and killing a 17-year old girl from Rockbridge County.
P7olice say the remaining three did not realize their friend had been hurt and were trying to make it to safety to the side of the road when the second fatality occurred.

Police say it's still preliminary, but don't think any charges will be filed against the drivers who crashed into the existing accident.

State Police are looking for a car that caused an accident involving one of their SERGEANTS today. Authorities say Sergeant Dan Jessee was driving his police motorcycle on Washington Avenue in Vinton near the Blairs Street intersection around 2-thirty. An older model red Dodge Neon pulled out in front of him, causing the wreck, before speeding off. Jessee was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for his injuries.

Federal, state, and local investigators have completed their on-site examination of the fire that destroyed the Planter's tobacco warehouse in South Boston.

Agents say the fire started in the southeast part of the building, but they could not say what caused the blaze. They add that there is NO evidence that the fire was intentionally set. The cause will be classified as undetermined while they do additional investigation and analysis of evidence.
The warehouse's owner says about 300-thousand pounds of tobacco were lost in Wednesday's fire.
