An early morning fire that destroyed a vacant farm house in Elliston has also disrupted telephone service in the Ironto area. Firefighters responded to the blaze on North Fork Road around 2:30. Authorities say the flames melted several major phone cables located in front of the home. Verizon is working on the problem, but it will take several hours for service to be restored.

Police are still looking for the driver of a car involved in a crash over the weekend that left two girls dead in Roanoke.

[SUPER=03-Roanoke/Saturday Morning;]

17-year-old Elizabeth Eddy of Rockbridge County and 18-year-old Mary Ashley Meadows of Lynchburg were killed after a series of accidents on route 220 early Saturday morning. Police say the girls were passengers in a car which was cut off by a man driving a teal sports car. The car flipped -- and the passengers were getting out of the vehicle -- when it was hit by an S-U-V... crushing and killing Eddy. Police say the remaining three did not realize their friend had been hurt and were trying to make it to safety at the side of the road when Meadows was killed.

A helicopter was used to remove the debris from the top of Bull Mountain. Authorities have spent the last week guarding the site, but were unable to remove any wreckage without the helicopter support. Crews spent about three hours flying pieces of debris from the mountain. The wreckage was then collected by a ground crew and loaded onto trucks. Debris will now be relocated to Delaware-- where NTSB officials will try and piece clues from the crash together. Officials have not released any new information regarding the CAUSE of the crash.
