Election machines in three precincts were not set into the proper mode to start voting.
For security reasons, the only way to reset the machines is with a single master key that is kept in Fincastle.

A precinct in Alleghany County discovered a quirk with ITS electronic voting machines this morning.
Voters at the Clifton Forge fire house had to switch to paper ballots when the computers went down, about an hour after the polls opened.
The manufacturer's representative says poll workers were not waiting long enough for the machines to reset.
Once they gave the equipment about ten seconds between voters, it worked fine.[Promo]

A Roanoke sheriff's deputy has been charged with providing cocaine to an inmate in the city jail.
Deputy Tierre McGinnis was employed in the sheriff's office for five years.
He was fired last month, following an investigation by the sheriff's department, city police and the D-E-A.
Because McGinnis was on duty and in uniform when he allegedly brought the coke into the jail, he faces an additional charge of firearm possession during a drug deal.
The inmate who got the drugs was a federal prisoner who's no longer being housed in the jail.
