The National Transportation Safety Board has released more information on the Hendrick Motorsports Plane Crash.

At 12:26, the plane was on the final segment of its approach. It leveled off at 2600 feet, before beginning another gradual descent. At 12:30 and three miles beyond the airport, the plane was at 1800 feet before controllers lost its altitude readout.

Three minutes after that, the flight crew indicated a missed approach, and controllers advised the crew to climb, but there were no more radio transmissions.
The plane came to rest on the southeast face of Bull Mountain at an elevation of about Two thousand four hundred fifty feet. Investigators did not talk with anyone who saw the crash, but witnesses did hear the plane as it passed over the airport, and saw it as it approached Bull Mountain. Though the plane was flying low, witnesses said the engine sounded fine. Witnesses said the mountain was completely obscured by fog and clouds at the time of the crash. [STANDUP-CLOSE] The Beech 200 King Air had been inspected in June, and it was equippied with a Global Positioning System receiver, but it did not have a cockpit voice recorder, a flight data recorder or a ground proximity warning system.
