Preparing for what is expected to be a massive offensive, more than 10-thousand U-S troops are circled around the war-torn city of Fallujah. More than 3-thousand insurgents are believed to be holed up in the city, possibly weakened by intense bombing over the last few days. Charlie D'Agata has the story.

Troops say attacks like these just strengthen their resolve. JUST ANGER. I WANT TO FIND THE PERSON WHO DID IT, THAT'S ALL I WANT. But as American and Iraqi forces prepared for an all-out assault...insurgents opened up another front. Samarra, north of Fallujah, was a city under siege. Insurgents launched a series of ferocious coordinated attacks -- detonating a number of suicide car bombs...launching a mortar attack on a market...and storming a police station. Hospital officials say dozens of Iraqis have been killed. The carnage, in a city that US troops had supposedly recaptured from the insurgents. D'AGATA BRIDGE: WHEN MARINES AND IRAQI FORCES STORMED SAMARRA LAST MONTH, IT WAS SEEN AS A TOTAL SUCCESS.
