State police say out of nearly 80-suspected methamphetamine labs found in Virginia this year, nearly three-quarters of them have been in the southwest. All but 21 of the labs were in southwest Virginia. Washington and Smyth County authorities each busted 19 suspected meth labs, while 19 more were found in Wythe and Pulaski counties. That compares to 34 raided statewide in all of 2003. Law enforcement officials plan to hold a statewide summit in Richmond, to address how to stem the spread of meth. Officials in the Southwest plan to share their knowledge and expertise with departments from other parts of the state.
