Two Roanoke police officers are on administrative leave after shooting a suspect in Southeast Roanoke.

It happened around eight thirty last night at the corner of Ninth Street and Highland Avenue near the C-V-S Pharmacy.
According to police, officers were conducting a narcotics investigation of 37 year old Darryl Abner Baker the second of Roanoke.

When officer John Hoover went to make the arrest, Baker allegedly took off running.
Officer Hoover then released his dog, who gave chase.

Baker was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
He faces several charges -- including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Officers John Hoover and Allen Bower have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

In the high school ranks, William Fleming and William Byrd settled the Blue Ridge District title tonight at Victory Stadium.

The Colonels were primed and ready for the senior night showdown against the Terriers.
Keith Smith's troops got on the board early in the second quarter. Dere Hicks hands off to Mijuan Curtis. Curtis shows off his speed and takes it to the house 50 yards on the score. It was 6-nothing Fleming.
Byrd's defense rose up later in the quarter. After a Colonel TD was called back, Hicks gets picked off by Stephen Marcum who turns in a nice return.
But Fleming found the endzone one more time before the half.

Jerome Fleming gets in from a couple of yards out as the Colonels win the district 27 to nothing and will now head to Amherst next week in the playoffs.

In other action today, Gretna whipped Appomattox 39 to 7, William Campbell took out Buckingham 62 to 6. It was GW-Danville over Halifax 33 to nothing. Parry McCluer was a 24-6 winner over Wilson Memorial. And EC Glass knocked off Franklin County 22 to 13.

A Dutch group set a new world record in domino toppling on Friday. Nearly four-million dominoes toppled, after singer Shania Twain pushed the red button to start the cascade. However, there was a small glitch when the dominoes did not fall immediately. But after a slight push, it all came tumbling down. (------------)
