A federal judge today sentenced the daughter-in-law of a former Giles County sheriff to 12 years in prison.
Allison Paige Falls pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and oxycodone, as well as a weapons charge.


Her husband, James Edwin Falls, previously received a 12-year sentence on similar charges.
James Falls is the son of former Giles County Sheriff Larry Falls, who retired last year.

Livingston "Bud" Pritchett is charged with assault and battery for biting the hand of a deputy while in an elevator at the Mongtomery County Jail. Pritchett was convicted in 1999 for the shooting death of Estel (ES-tul) Singleton, but was granted a new trial. The assault and battery charge was certified to a grand jury this afternoon.

Speaking of the Presidency, the Bill Clinton Presidential Library is set to open Thursday in Little Rock, Arkansas. Some 30-thousand guests have been invited. Organizers promised that Clinton's messy legacy won't be overlooked. One corner will be dedicated to his impeachment, and Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones will also be mentioned. Programs are scheduled all week. Highlights include concerts by Aretha Franklin, U2's Bono and the Edge and a science discussion by astronaut John Glenn. Speakers at Thursday's opening include Clinton, his wife, President George W. Bush and his father and former President Carter.

High school students call up Roanoke County residents and ask them to donate money to help fund scholarships for seniors.
The event typically raises about ten-thousand dollars.

Today, council members voted to keep Subway and other national chains out of the city market building, until the city develops a strategic plan for the downtown landmark.

Today, city council did approve incentives for the south Roanoke retail center that will include a Ukrops grocery store. The performance agreement could bring the developer nine million dollars over fifteen years.
City officials defended the deal, citing the high cost of building in the flood plain. The payments will equal the amount of tax revenue the project generates, up to 600- thousand dollars a year for fifteen years.
