A Henry County grand jury indicted nearly 50-people today, in connection with a major drug operation there.

The indictments stem from a seven month drug investigation that stared in December. During that time, authorities say they seized various amounts of crack cocaine and marijuana. 47-people have now been indicted on charges ranging from distribution of cocaine to manufacturing marijuana.

The man accused of hitting and killing a mother and daughter in Shawsville was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Prosecutors dropped a DUI charge against 22 year old Christopher Hight today. Hight is still charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of 44 year old Joyce Sirry and her six year old daughter Betty. Last summer, Sirry and her daughter were walking along Route 460 when they were struck by Hight's car. Prosecutors say a toxicology report doesn't support a DUI charge. Hight goes on trial in January on the manslaughter charges.

Instead, James (JEN-ah-RETT-tee) Generette admitted to the crime to avoid the death penalty.

73-year-old Willie Harston and his 68-year-old wife, Clara, were found dead in their home two years ago.
They had been beaten to death.
Generette was arrested in North Carolina a few days later and charged with capital murder.

Leave it to NASCAR to make a controversial policy change for next season, just days before it crowns it new champion. NASCAR says it is planning to move qualifying from Fridays to Saturdays at most tracks in 2005.
