A heart failure treatment targeted to African Americans is already getting national attention even though it has yet to be approved.
A study last week in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that BiDil significantly affected the survival rates for patients.

As a person's heart fails, it does not pump enough blood for the body. More than 50 percent of patients die within five years of diagnosis.
When BiDil was first tested in the general population it didn't make a significant impact --but it was a whole different story for African Americans.
