What a wickedly fast season this has been, and tonight we broke the seal on the 2004 postseason with regional semi-final playoff games. [GRAPHIC=LIBERTY/SALEM]

(( Liberty head coach Chris Watts entered the game with a staggering 30-and-6 record as this year's Minutemen posted the school's third straight 10 wins season. On the opening drive of the game - the Spartnas Matt Shawver shows his skills scrambling and then shows his skills throwing as he picks up 14 yards on the pass to Tony Spradlin, and the Spartans are in business. Salem would let Andre Hairston finish off the drive as he slams it in from the one and Salem is on top 6-to-nothing. Now in the second quarter, Salem is looking for more as Hairston break off a 30 yard run to put the Spartans back in business on the Liberty 22. On the very next play, Shaawver will go up top and connect with Bryan Webb on the perfectly executed fade. Salem is now rolling with a 13-to-nothing lead on the Minutemen. Liberty would finally get something going on its next possession as O.B. Blake keeps the ball and he will get 20 yards before he's bright down on the play. Blake would cap the drive with a 13 yard scamper and now the Minutemen are right back in it as they cut the lead to 13-to-7. It stayed that way until the fourth quarter when the Spartans got this 19 yard Grant Hall field goal to push their advantage to 16-to-7. Liberty would continue cutting into that lead as Blake hits Barry Flood in stride down the left side for the score. The 40 yard pass play cuts the Salem lead to 16-to-14 in the fourth. With under four minutes to go Salem is looking for a first down on 3rd and 17 to keep the drive alive, and Shawver will get it as he connects with Spradlin for a huge first. A few plays later, Shawver would not only convert another key first down, but also get a back breaking touchdown as he and Spradlin hook up for 69 yards to make it a 22-to-14 game. The Spartans win it by 8 and move on to the regional title game next week.)) ((BITES:))

We pick this one up in the second quarter with Amherst on top and looking for more. Pieree Tinsley hands off to Vincent Moore, and he will push his way through the Fleming defense for the six yard touchdown to make it 24-to-7 Lancers. Now in the third, Fleming is on the comeback trail as Dere Hicks calls his own number and he will dive in from the one. It's now 24-to-14. But Tinsley would give it back to Jonathan Rose and he will break a couple of tackles and go 74 yards down the sideline and eventually into the endzone on a back breaking play for the Colonels. It's now 31-to-14.

[SUPER=53-Bassett/Carroll Co. vs. Bassett; :00]

Carroll looked to make the most of this postseason opportunity against the highly charged Bengals. The Bengals had their bite early as Torrance Hairston takes the handoff on the third play from scrimmage and he finds some serious daylight as he turns it into a foot race and then a touchdown. The play covers 68 yards and its' 7-to-nothing early. Bassett had a chance to extend that lead, but Brandon Dillard fumbles just shy of the goal line as Jose Wengerd recovers for Carroll in the endzone for the touchback. But the Cavs would also have potential points thrown out of the windowas Casey Lawson throws it up for grabs and J.R. Barr comes down with it. But a holding call wiped out the touchdown and keeps the game at 7-all at the half. But in the third, Wengerd and Carroll would even the score on this 25 yard sprint to the house. And it's on as the score is tied at 7-all. However, Hairston was in no mood for a tight game and he builds some cushion on the field and on the scoreboard with this 55 yard TD run. It's his second of the night and it's 14-to-7 Bassett. The same man, Hairston would get the hat trick as his third touchdown from two yards out makes it a 21-to-7 game early in the fourth quarter. Carroll would get on the scoreboard one more time o this great 12 yard TD catch by James Pruitt.
[SUPER=50-Carroll Co./14/Bassett/35;]

But Carroll finishes the season at 6-and-5, while Bassett advances with the 35-to-14 win over the Cavs.

The hog pen was humming tonight and the "Swine were fine" as the Wildcats held on to a 21-to-7 halftime lead. But this one was far from over as Handley fight back with L.A. Anderson going to the air and finding Bobby Amos at the goal line. He steps in and its a 26 yard TD to make it a 21-to-14 game. Now in the fourth Rockbridge is still on top by 7, and the Wildcats get some more on the first and goal as Chase Prasnicki hands off to Cardell Rosser and he slices his way through the line for the six yard score. It's now 28-to-14 early in the fourth. On Handley next possession, the Judges' Anderson keeps on a the 11 yard run off the right side for the score. It's now a 28-to-21 game in favor of the Wildcats. Handley would get it back on a turnover, and Anderson will use his arm to hook up with Amos. This time he's deep and wide open over the middle. Amos gets to the five yard line for 50 yards. Two plays later Anderson punches it in to knot up the game at 28-to-28 with four minutes to play. Handley would get it back again at the Rockbridge 42, and Anderson will go over the middle and find Tyler Carroll for 32 yards moving the ball to the Wildcats 10 yard line.

Then with 19 ticks left on the clock, the Judges kick the field goal on third down as Mack Sunderlin nails the 22 yarder. Rockbridge's season ends with a devastating 31-to-28 loss.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-Manassas/G.W. Danville vs. Stonewall Jackson; :00]

The fans from Danville made the trek up from southside tonight to support the Eagles, and they would have plenty to see, if they could see through the fog. On the other sideline was a familiar face in the former of Stonewall Jackson head coach Loren Johnson - a former Virginia Tech star defensive back. George Washington would strike first as Haylen Murphy takes the Cameron Martin Handoff and rolls in for the touchdown.
GW is on top 7-to-nothing in tht first quarter. Murphy would just keep controlling the ball in the second quarter as he rips one up the middle and into the zone for the TD. It's now 13-to-nothing Eagles. But the homeboys suddenly came alive in the fog. Ricky Milbourne hands off to Chris Garrett, and number 2 will come out of the fog and into the endzone to make it a 13-to-7 game stil favor of GW. Later Milbourne would throw deep to Ryan Williams.

The Buffs were ready to bust loose tonight, but the people from Pearisburg were dressed to kill. That take is seriously in Giles. Giles would set the tone early on the first play from scrimmage as C.J, Martin keeps out of the single wing and finds himself a seam right up the middle and no matter how many times you see this offense it's tough to stop it. The 14 play 80 yard drive would be capped off by this the first pass of the drive as Ricky Cook straightens up and hits Michael Thompson for the TD. The Spartans take a six to nothing lead on the TD Toss. The Buffs offense would stutter, but their would rebound. Cook tries to sweep it around the right side, but Aaron Mathis makes a tremendous stop behind the line of scrimmage. Late in the second quarter with time ticking away, the Buffs pitch it to their main man Chris Collins, but he can't anything other than a pack of wild Spartans. Giles would then take advantage of some good field position, Cook jams it up the middle keeps the chains moving out of the wing. Two plays later, Michael Early sweeps left untouched and trots on for the second score of the night to make it 12-to-nothing.
[SUPER=50-Giles/12/Floyd Co./8;]

Giles would then seal the deal with its defense picking off the Floyd pass and the Spartans get two thumbs up and a 12 to 8 win.

Three plays later Danny Brogan will call his own number and he will take it into the zone from 11 yards out for the first score of the night to make it 6-to-nothing. The Bison would look to match that tally as Joseph Hagadone looks over the middle and goes deep to Cash, and the two are money as he hauls the pass in for the 35 yard score to tie it at 6-all.
