Following a recommendation by the 9-11 commission, the Transportation Security Administration has beefed up its screening procedures. Now all passengers selected for additional screening must be checked for explosives. The area .....south of Baghdad is commonly known as the "triangle of death"
BRIDGE: US MILITARY OFFICIALS believe the MILITANTS THAT SLIPPED THE NET IN FALLUJAH HAVE RELOCATED IN THE REGION -- ONLY A 45 MINUTE DRIVE AWAY. THERE'S BEEN A SURGE IN ATTACKS IN THE AREA INCLUDING THE EXECUTION OF SEVERAL IRAQI NATIONAL GUARDS IN THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS.
And not only do insurgents regularly target US military convoys here, the region is famous for attacks on Shiite Muslims trying to get from Baghdad to the holy city of Najaf...the only direct road cuts right through it.

A schoolhouse election in Roanoke is making things a little sweeter for a group of soldiers preparing for duty in Iraq.

Second graders from Preston Park Primary School joined students from across the country for a special vote in October.
In a campaign that included police, firefighters, homeless shelters and health professionals, the military won.
