That's how those who knew him describe 22 year old Lance Corporal Demarkus Brown who was killed in Iraq on Friday.

Sgt. Kathy Perdue considers her recruits extended family.
Demarkus Brown was no different.
She met Demarkus when he joined the Marines more than a year ago.
They stayed in touch even after he left for Iraq back in June.

An inmate who walked away from a work detail in Danville is back in custody.

33-year old Jarrett Tyrone Hite was on a crew washing cars at the Danville City Farm.
Officers realized he was missing about 2:30 yesterday afternoon.
Authorities found his prison clothes nearby. Police say Hite turned himself in around 2-o clock this morning.

The case of two missing people in Giles County is now believed to be a murder-suicide.

when authorities discovered Daniels' home burned to the ground. Jones' body was found Saturday near the home. An autopsy yesterday revealed he died of self-inflicted knife wounds. Authorities say he also left a note.

State police say a car passed and then cut-off a tractor trailer. The truck then hit the car and both went into the median.
The car flipped three times.
Both drivers were taken to Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington with non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending against the driver of the car-- a 16 year old girl from Buchanan.

It's taken five years, and more than one million dollars to complete, but Roanoke County has created a new courthouse annex in a Salem landmark.

Concerns about the structure delayed the renovations, but the work is now almost complete.
